Android launcher monetization without ads

Android launchers stay running constantly and have nowhere to put ads without ruining the home screen. The GetPassive SDK gives you a background revenue layer that runs quietly while the launcher is in use.

Why launcher apps are a good fit

Launchers are unusual: they run the entire time the user is awake and looking at their device, but the user almost never looks at the launcher itself. The home screen is a transit point between apps. Putting ads there breaks the experience users picked your launcher to get.

Most launcher monetization today relies on wallpaper packs, icon packs, or one-time purchases. Those work, but they cap revenue at the size of the paying audience. A background bandwidth contribution layer extends revenue to users who chose the free version without changing the UI at all.

Launchers also stay running across reboots, which means installed uptime per active user is high. That is good for steady monthly contribution.

How GetPassive works on launcher

Apply for access, get an SDK key after review, add the SDK to your launcher build, test, then go live. Integration details are in our integration docs.

The SDK runs as a quiet background contributor while the launcher is the active home app. It is battery-aware on devices that report battery state, network-aware, and idles when the user is actively gaming or streaming. No on-screen UI is required.

What you keep

Developers receive 80% of net revenue, monthly, via Stripe Connect. GetPassive keeps 20%. The split is the same regardless of launcher audience size.

Revenue scales with the number of active users, their region, and device uptime. Earnings are estimates and depend on real demand. Launcher audiences typically see steady results because uptime is so consistent.

Consent model

Consent is bundled into your existing Terms and Conditions. The launcher includes a plain-language disclosure about idle background bandwidth, and users accept it as part of the usual terms flow at install or first launch.

No personal data is collected by GetPassive. Sample wording is on the consent reference page.

FAQ

Will it affect home screen performance?

The SDK runs in a background thread and is designed to keep impact off the main UI thread.

Does battery contribution work?

The SDK is battery-aware. It throttles or pauses on devices reporting low battery so the user is not surprised by drain.

What if the user switches launchers?

If your launcher is not the active home app, the SDK reduces or stops contribution. It only runs while your app is the active launcher.

Can I bundle the toggle with my settings?

Yes. Most launchers expose the participation toggle in the same settings screen as the rest of their options.
